Toyota All-Wheel Drive Vehicles
If you want to ensure your vehicle is ready for even the toughest terrain around Muscle Shoals, choosing all-wheel drive is a great place to start. Challenging road conditions in Florence or inclement weather in Huntsville are no match for an all-wheel drive (AWD) capable vehicle.
Throughout the lineup offered at Greenway Toyota of the Shoals, you will find a diverse array of Toyota AWD vehicles that can elevate your daily driving experience in Decatur. From sedans and vans to SUVs in pickup trucks, there is sure to be a Toyota all-wheel drive vehicle that meets your needs and budget.

Toyota All-Wheel Drive Technologies
Toyota AWD vehicles will be equipped with one of four AWD configurations. Expect Dynamic Torque-Control if you choose an AWD sedan or small SUV. You will likely see Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD with Driveline Disconnect on the larger SUVs and trucks in the Toyota lineup. AWD hybrid models have Electronic On-Demand AWD and AWDe.
You can explore all of the Toyota AWD systems below:
Dynamic Torque-Control AWD:
- Employs electromagnetic coupling ahead of the rear differential to engage and disengage the AWD system
- Gently applies brakes when the sensors and the computer detect that a tire is slipping (or spinning)
- Equalizes traction on all wheels
- Does not adjust the power going to each wheel
- Driveshaft that powers the AWD is always turning
Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD with Driveline Disconnect:
- Uses multiple dog-clutch gears to engage the AWD system behind the transmission, ahead of the rear differential and each rear tire
- System distributes engine power to each wheel instead of using selective braking like the Dynamic Torque-Control AWD system
- Disengages the dog-clutch to the wheel where slipping is detected
- Applies extra power to the other non-slipping wheels
- Distributes more torque to each tire for more power than the Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system
- Driveshaft will not continuously turn
Electronic On-Demand AWD:
- Available for some Toyota Hybrid vehicles
- Driveshafts are replaced with electric-motor generators for the rear tires
- No mechanical connection is needed between the front and rear wheels
- Rear wheel motors are turned off if no added traction is needed
AWDe:
- Works similarly to the Electronic On-Demand AWD system
- Rear induction motors are only available at speeds below 43 mph to prevent burnout
- Engaged up to 6 mph when the vehicle is accelerating
Toyota AWD vs. 4WD
In addition to Toyota all-wheel drive vehicles, the lineup also offers 4WD in several popular models. 4WD is ideal if you plan to do a lot of off-roading in your Toyota around Tuscumbia. The following Toyota models can be equipped with 4WD.
- Toyota Land Cruiser
- Toyota 4Runner
- Toyota Sequoia
- Toyota Tacoma
- Toyota Tundra
